I’m an WordPress learner myself and I know it’s hard to find free articles and resources from which you can increase your WP knowledge. Here are a few tips on how I learn and from where you can read free WordPress tutorials. About 25% of the new websites are using WordPress, so it’s very possible that someone has already done something you want to achieve 😉
How I learn WordPress
In my opinion the best way to learn the WordPress platform is to use it and try to create a project for it. The project may consist of a simple plugin or even a theme. As you can see this website is based on WordPress and my own theme, Oceania. Oceania is not the best theme out there, in fact is not even good enough for a free theme, but it was fully developed by me in time. Whenever I wanted to add a cool new functionality to it I had to search how others did it and learn it my self. This way, in time, you can also learn learn how to do almost anything in WordPress. Sky is the limit;)

WordPress Codex – This is the official WordPress documentation and is my first go to WP read.
WPBeginner – One of the first and most complete blog for WordPress beginners with many tutorials and a very active community.
Easy WP Guide – An entire website built as a WordPress guide within a beautiful design. It also offers a downloadable PDF version.
Learn WordPress – Learn WP from the Automattic masters themselves
Themeforest WP Video Series – This video tutorial series will give you fast overview of all the WordPress secrets.

WPTuts WP101 video training – WPtuts has content of high quality and they have partnered with WP101 to provide excellent video tutorials that cover the basics of WordPress administration.
WordPress.tv – WordPress has its own channel with presentations given at Wordcamps. There are videos for all levels from beginner to expert. You can learn a lot here, not only on a coding level, but also how to turn WordPress in a business.
Learn WordPress in a week – The WPMU guys have structured a way to learn WP in a week for all the un-patience ones
FirstSiteGuide – A nice website that will show you how to start, run and grow your online presence. They also feature several WordPress resources.
