How to Install Fonts on Windows OS (Step-by-Step Guide)

How to install fonts on Windows OS?

First, download and extract the font files. Start by clicking the “Download” button and saving the ZIP archive to a location on your hard drive.

To unpack the font files, either double-click the ZIP file or right-click it. On recent versions of Windows, you can simply right-click the ZIP file and choose “Extract All”. Then follow the prompts: click Next, choose the destination folder, click Next again, and finally click Finish.

If your system doesn’t handle ZIP files automatically, you can use tools like WinRAR, WinZip, or any similar utility. Just right-click (or double-click) the ZIP file, select Extract, and choose where you’d like the font files to be saved.

Method 1: Install via Right-Click

Method 2: Drag & Drop into Fonts Folder

Method 3: Use Settings (Windows 10/11)

Important notes
– Admin rights are needed for system-wide installation.
– Installed fonts are available to all apps (Photoshop, Word, etc.) after restarting them.
– Fonts are stored in C:\Windows\Fonts.

Tip (for Windows XP/Vista, not Windows 7): if you punctually need a font, you don’t need to install it. Just double-click on the .ttf file, and while the preview window is opened you can use it in most of the programs you’ll launch (apart from a few exceptions like OpenOffice).
